Open Monument Day
On Sunday 13 September, the doors of the beautiful St Martin’s Church in Kessenich will once again be wide open.
This year’s national theme is ‘In good hands’.
Particular attention will be paid to how valuable heritage is preserved for future generations, and you’ll hear about the recent restoration of the painting of Saint Augustine of Hippo, the plans for the restoration of the valuable Schyven organ, and, of course, the Gom project from 1992–1993 will be highlighted once again. It is a wonderful example of community spirit and love for this church. Thanks to the capable hands of more than 80 volunteers from Kessenich, the church was cleaned at the time using 5,600 pencil erasers. The lovely short film we made about this will be shown several times throughout the day.
The church will be open on both days from 10 am to 5 pm, and admission is free.
We hope to welcome you during Open Monument Day!
