Quiet roads, well-maintained cycle paths, hospitable inhabitants and beautiful nature and culture. In short, Limburg has everything to make for a wonderful cycling trip. One of the gateways to Limburg is Kinrooi. With its picturesque Meuse villages, the popular marina and rural surroundings, you will really relax here. To fully immerse you in the couleur locale from your two- or three-wheeler, we have already worked out a few routes for you. Curious? Then read on quickly.

Cycling in the heart of both Limburg regions

Bike loops will guide you from north to south through the watery Maasland region. You will discover beautiful nature, historical riches, lyrical spots, cosy village centres, ... You can't get lost. The blue numbered signposts guide you from junction to junction through varied landscapes. You can now even cycle through Kollegreend-Koningssteen nature reserve (between cycle junction 01 and 53). Note, in the Netherlands, these are white signs with green numbers to follow.

You pass small picturesque Meuse villages with lovely terraces. Shortening a route is perfectly possible via the ferries that take you and your bike across the Meuse to continue your route.

Boundless mosaic of landscapes

The Kempen~Broek cycling map recently included a new suggestion route. All information is on it in both Dutch and German. Via quiet country roads and beautiful cycle paths, the area is particularly good to discover by bike. You will find untouched nature with marshes, brook valleys, fens, forests and heath as well as hay meadows and vast agricultural areas. If you want to experience true silence, this is the place to be.

"Happen and trappen"

Happen en Trappen: the tastiest cycle tours in Belgium and the Netherlands. A day of cycling through beautiful surroundings and delicious food at five different restaurants. What more could you ask for?

The cycling tour "Cycling along the Meuse and Zuid-Willemsvaart" starts in Maaseik. The first part takes place on the renovated dykes along the Meuse. The route then heads inland to our beautiful asparagus municipality of Kinrooi where vast farmlands are a feast for the eyes. After passing through Kinrooi, the ride descends to the idyllic Itterdal in Opitter.  After a nice stretch along the towpath of the Zuid-Willemsvaart between Tongerlo and Neeroeteren, the cycle route returns to Maaseik along the winter dykes of the Oude Maas in Heppeneert.

Mill map "Kempen-Broek

Within the GrensPark Kempen~Broek there are around fifty wind and water mills. The mill map is not just a map showing these mills. The map tells a story - The Story of our Mills - and of the special mill heritage. It invites everyone to come and find out more about the mill heritage and the volunteer millers of the GrensPark Kempen~Broek.

Molennetwerk Kempen~Broek is an alliance of the mill organisations, mill owners, mill volunteers and millers within the area of GrensPark Kempen~Broek (Nederweert, Weert, Leudal, Cranendonck, Bocholt, Bree, Kinrooi-Molenbeersel, Maaseik). More info: kempenbroekmolens.org.

Windmill routes by heritage-app

You can also download the mill routes via the Erfgoed-app. This app takes you along the most beautiful wind and water mills of Kempen-Broek. At the mills, you can view and listen to the app's info. It is also possible to view the route in advance from any location.

  2. Choose "Grensmolenroute" within the list.

The Mill Heritage App Plus makes your mill visit even more interesting, educational, surprising and complete. Scan the QR code at the mill on your smartphone or tablet, follow the instructions and then enjoy nostalgic photos, old films, animations and stories about the mill told by the miller.
