The Meuse Valley River Park is an exceptional natural park with a whimsical Meuse in the leading role. The Meuse is not only an impressive rain river, it also forms a border between Belgium and the Netherlands for 40 km. Over the centuries, it sculpted a multifaceted and fascinating landscape.

A tangle of old river arms, banks, gullies, gravel banks, cut meanders, dykes and flood plains... followed by some well-defined Meuse villages. High and low water levels brought great diversity. Gravel, sand and clay form the basis for the typical fauna and flora.

Do you like going out in the Meuse Valley River Park? Every month you can go out at least once with a Meuse Ranger.

Cross-border hiking in the ‘Drie Eigen’

Kessenich, Thorn and Neeritter form an area that harmoniously combines nature and culture. The paths of the hiking route network guide you through the Vijverbroek Kollegreend and Koningssteen nature reserves. You pass water lakes created by the clearing. Typical of this region.

Please note that in winter, when the Meuse is at high water, the red loop may not be completely walkable as part of the route will be under water.

Diversions are currently provided on the red, blue and green loop. These are indicated by a work icon. Please follow these signs.

Heritage walk in Kessenich

Anyone who has ever visited a Limburg Meuse village (or lives there themselves), knows that the rich history of the Meuse valley is still tangible there in the many monuments and village views. Five Meuse villages (including Kessenich) can now be discovered through the new heritage walks in the Erfgoedapp (Heritage app).

All together, these walks shine the light on more than 42 Maasland monuments.
